Proposals for further government regulation of the practice of law in Connecticut

It is my understanding that proposals for mandatory CLE and mandatory insurance disclosure have been submitted to the Superior Court Rules Committee.  According to the minutes of the April 14, 2008 meeting of the Board of Governors, the CBA House of Delegates is likely to take up a mandatory mentoring proposal in the fall.

Mandatory CLE:   A Proposal For Minimum Continuing Legal Education in Connecticut

Mandatory Mentoring:  The following is an excerpt from the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Governors held on April 14, 2008.

The Standing Committee on Professionalism, which has recaptured responsibility for moving forward with drafting rules for the mandatory mentoring program, has drafted proposed rules which are currently being circulated to the sections and committees. This proposal will be before the House of Delegates probably in the fall.

Mandatory Disclosure of Malpractice Insurance:  Also from the minutes of the April 14 meeting of the Board of Governors.

Mr. Prout provided written comments to Justice Zarella regarding the comments made by the House of Delegates in response to the request from the Judicial Branch that the CBA provide a position on an ABA model rule regarding mandatory reporting of professional liability insurance coverage. Zarella replied and thanked the CBA for a response and indicated that the issue would be taken up by the rules committee.
